Hey guys, sorry I don't know French, but I thought I would enter this competition with my first Wii game!

If you have ever played Mario Paint for the SNES, then you have probably played the Gnat Attack game (also known as Coffee Break). My game is a spinoff of this, created for the Wii. I took many creative liberties with it, including redoing all of the sound effects with my brother and my girlfriend, and switching up the game modes just a bit.

There are two main game modes, the "Classic" mode, which is level based much like the original. There is also a "Swarm" mode which features endless enemies.

Controls are simple: use the wiimote's IR pointer to control the swatter and then just press the A or B button to swat at the bugs. If you hit home during the game, it will take you back to the main menu, and from there you can exit the app or change game modes.

All comments and criticisms are welcome, and if you find a bug (one that isn't supposed to be there lol, I've heard plenty of jokes about this already) let me know and I'll do my best to fix it.

Other than that, enjoy the game! I hope at least a few of you enjoy it as much as I've enjoyed making it. Also, keep your eye out for updates, I have many more levels in mind, as well as a multiplayer mode and a few other features that will be added in time. New in version 1.2:

- Fixed bug that could lead to crashes during close
- Added many new graphical effects
- Added high score for Classic mode
- Added new skins for bugs, you can choose this at the main menu
- Much much more.


Coming in version 1.3:

- Support for multiple swatters in Classic mode
- An additional game mode
- Further improved graphics

I've tested the game. It reminds me a Wario Ware minigame.
It's fun, but it broke my arm after pressed so many times on the A button :lol:

Check the original post on details of the newer contest submission version (version 1.1). The new version includes a few fixes as well as a high score display for swarm mode.

I've updated the original post with the source code of version 1.1 and 1.2 I will be uploading it onto a google code SVN before long, so the source will always be available. Things of note in the source that may be of use in other games:
  • 1. The enemy_list structure with enemy nodes can be modified for use with any sprite based game. It is only forward linked, but it could be double linked to speed up search times for use in larger games. Has support for unlimited objects.

    2. The level list with objective structure could likewise be modified for other swarm based games, such as a space shooter. It also has support for unlimited rules and will be documented further in future releases of the source code.
If you consider using any of my source and you need help modifying it, contact me and I will be glad to help in any way possible. Also, if you are interested in level design and modify this code to have alternative/better levels, contact me and I will include them in the game at some point.
